27/04/2009
Noble, the independent investment bank focused on small and mid-cap companies, is delighted to announce the expansion of its corporate broking team with the appointments of Peter Tracey and John Millar (both ex Merrill Lynch) as co-heads of Corporate Broking and Equity Capital Markets (ECM) and James Staveley (ex Citigroup) as Associate Director.
Peter brings to Noble extensive experience and strong market relationships, having spent the past eight years at Merrill Lynch - three and a half of those as head of Small & Mid Cap Corporate Broking in London where he focused on origination of new business and relationship management before he relocated to New York in March 2007.
In the US, Peter built up and headed the Advisory Content Group which included creating a European style Sector Specialist Sales team, Corporate Access & Conferencing for North America and the Alpha Capture product. After just 12 months, due to strong client acceptance, the Sector Specialist Sales team was ranked No.1 in Institutional Investor All America Sales Survey for Industry Specific Sales Group category with the majority of sectors winning the No.1 award. Before Merrills, Peter was at Charterhouse Securities for four years, where he was in the sales team ranked No.1 in the Reuters Small Cap survey.
John has over 20 years’ experience in investment banking, forged predominantly at Merrill Lynch International. For the past couple of years, John has held the position of Managing Director of Corporate Finance, working across the Investment Banking and Global Markets departments on private equity placements and hedge fund coverage. John’s previous appointments include Managing Director of Equity Capital Markets, where he led the equity syndication team in London responsible for more than 350 deals and raising in excess of $100bn.
James has worked in corporate broking since gaining a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Bristol University in 2000, He was most recently VP at Citigroup where he has built relationships with many large and mid cap companies in the FTSE 350, focusing principally on Consumer, Retail and Media sectors.
These appointments follow other senior appointments in the second half of 2008 which saw Jeremy McKeown (ex Investec) join Noble as Head of Sales and Paul Beamont and Laura Mould (ex Merrill Lynch) join as Directors of Sales Trading.
Peter, John and James will be based in Noble’s Old Broad Street office and will be working alongside James Bromhead, Director ECM, who will continue to head up AIM ECM, and Henry Willcocks, analyst ECM.
Angus Macpherson, Chief Executive of Noble said, “This is an exciting time at Noble as we continue to make selective hires to strengthen and grow the combined team. Peter and John bring with them a vast amount of experience in investment banking, are highly regarded both within the industry and by clients, and have extensive knowledge of the small-mid cap asset class. At Noble, we will continue to ensure that we offer the most highly regarded professional team to help our clients with the enormous pressures they are experiencing at this time”.
Peter Tracey said “Following two years working in New York during an unprecedented time in global markets, I am hugely excited by this opportunity to return to London to work at Noble. I admire what Angus and his new management team have already achieved over the past year or so, it’s going to be fun to be part of an energetic and dynamic team. At any point in the market there is strong demand from corporate clients for high quality service and real representation, but more so in these extremely turbulent times. With the infrastructure and calibre of people already at Noble, we have an incredible opportunity to deliver what corporate and investor clients need.”
John Millar added, “I am looking forward to growing the business with Peter. Noble has the will and focus to become the pre-eminent house for small and mid caps. There couldn’t be a better time to be joining the team to help accelerate that growth.”
